3-Stage Diesel Fuel Filtration System for HPCR Engines

Documents the multi-stage filtration architecture required by high-pressure common rail (HPCR) diesel fuel systems. HPCR injection pressures up to 2000 bar reduce injector nozzle clearances to 2–4µm, making fuel cleanliness critical. Stage 1 removes coarse debris protecting the lift pump. Stage 2 removes medium particles and free water (measured per ASTM D6304 Karl Fischer method) which causes injector stiction. Stage 3 provides final protection at ≥2µm before the high-pressure pump.

3-Stage Diesel Fuel Filtration SystemSequential three-stage diesel fuel filtration: Stage 1 pre-filter removes coarse particles (≥200µm), Stage 2 primary filter with water coalescing separator removes particles (≥10µm) and free water, Stage 3 secondary fine filter (≥2µm) protects HPCR injection pump and injectors. Return flow from injectors goes back to the fuel tank.
