COALVEX Gas Conditioning Architecture

Engineering Reference · Industrial & Process

Platform: COALVEX™

Technology: COALERIS™ · GASLIQ™

Engineering Relationships

  • COALVEX™ organizes gas conditioning around the liquid phase carried by natural-gas and industrial process-gas streams.
  • COALERIS™ is the COALVEX™ family for fine liquid-aerosol and small-droplet coalescence and maps to TC-NG-01.
  • GASLIQ™ is the COALVEX™ Gas-Liquid Separation technology for free liquid, larger droplets and bulk or intermediate separation and maps to TC-NG-02.
  • Bulk separation and fine coalescence are distinct mechanisms and may be staged when the incoming liquid load requires pre-separation before fine aerosol treatment.
  • Treatment selection depends on gas composition, flow, pressure, temperature, liquid form and loading, droplet behavior, turndown, drainage and required downstream condition.
  • Vessel architecture, application point and system configuration do not become independent technology marks.

Components

  • Gas coalescing elements and media
  • Bulk or intermediate separation internals where applicable
  • Element-to-housing sealing interfaces
  • Liquid drainage path
  • Installed pressure vessel, separator, drains and instrumentation as system context

Problems

  • Fine liquid aerosol carryover
  • Free-liquid or large-droplet carryover
  • Downstream compressor or equipment liquid exposure
  • Poor drainage or liquid re-entrainment
  • Unexpected differential-pressure rise
  • Unstable separation across flow turndown

Diagnostic Methods

  • Determine whether the incoming liquid challenge is fine aerosol, larger entrained droplets, free liquid or a combination.
  • Review gas composition, pressure, temperature, flow rate and turndown.
  • Characterize liquid loading, droplet behavior and liquid physical properties.
  • Inspect element seating, sealing, vessel condition and the liquid drainage path.
  • Distinguish coalescing-media problems from bulk-separation, drainage or vessel-operating problems.

Operating Conditions

  • Natural-gas or industrial process-gas duty
  • Gas composition
  • Operating and design pressure
  • Temperature range
  • Gas flow rate and turndown
  • Aerosol or droplet size distribution
  • Liquid loading and variability
  • Drainage and liquid-removal behavior

Standards

  • ISO 13686:2013 — natural-gas quality designation; process/gas-quality context rather than a filter-element certification.
  • ISO 12500-1:2007 — oil-aerosol performance testing of coalescing filters in compressed-air systems only.
  • ISO 8573-1:2010 — compressed-air purity classes for particles, water and oil where the duty is compressed air.
  • ISO 8573-2:2018 — compressed-air oil-aerosol measurement where applicable.
  • ISO 8573-9:2004 — compressed-air liquid-water measurement where applicable.
